Welcome to our academy

From the moment you walk in the door you will forget about everything
else. You can train (mentally and physically) for hours and go home
happy
about your day and what you did. You will be a better spouse,
parent, friend, and more balanced person. This is what happens when
you start on the Jiu Jitsu journey, whether it's a hobby or lifestyle you
will benefit in every aspect of your life from the training you receive on
the mat's. There are few places or activities that bring people true
happiness, and I'm not saying that that this is the only way of life, but
as the great Ricardo Almeida said "I have yet to meet someone who
discontinued doing Jiu Jitsu and 6 month later was a better person for it".

Our students are as diverse as they come and consist of people from
many backgrounds including the medical field, college students,
accountants, law enforcement, and much more. We have women's,
kids, teens, and adult classes which are constructed to provide a
combination of self-defense, confidence, and loyalty through Jiu Jitsu.
Also, we have different levels of classes to accommodate each
individuals skills and capabilities from the newest of white belts to the
mature black belt, but we all have the same common goal of working
together to improve ourselves and our craft.

A clean gi is a happy gi

Keeping your Gi looking and smelling as fresh as the day you got it can be difficult, but no fear because there are many products out there that can help you achieve the healthy look your uniform deserves.  Remember, keeping your Gi clean not only helps you and your team mates to stay healthy, but it also helps your academy to stay in tip top shape and prevent bad "ju-ju".

1.) Washing & drying your Gi on hot (e.g., hot water) IS going to shrink it, even if it is pre-shrunk, so try using the "warm" settings or "cold" if you can! This will prevent the fabric from premature wear and tear and increase the lifespan of your Gi. Also, try hanging your uniform out to dry in the beautiful sunlight to save energy and keep it smelling fresh.

2.)  One thing you never want to do when cleaning your Gi is use fabric softener when washing or drying.  Using softeners will definitely wear the fabric down, by softening if, and cause it to tear. Bleach, and bleach alternatives, are not recommended cleaners because their chemicals wear the fabric down and cause discoloration.  The Gi is means to be thick and sturdy, that's what allows us to use it in our submissions and training so treat it well and take care of it properly.

3.) When you wash your Gi try dissolving some baking soda in water and add it to your laundry detergent for better results.  Try using 1/4 cup of baking soda. Also, oxyclean or borax works well with your laundry detergent to clean your uniform with out bleaching it or wearing the fabric down.

4.) If you are doing multiple classes in a day try using products such as "Febreeze microbial" to freshen your uniform up and keep it clean.  If you prefer something a little more natural you can make your own cleaning spray by mixing some essential oil t to a quart sprayer of water:

20 drops Lavender Fine Essential Oil
20 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
10 drops Lemon Essential Oil

These oils are known to be antibacterial and they have the bonus of smelling fresh without smelling like a perfume/cologne. You can find these ingredients online or at your local health foods store (e.g., whole foods).
